If water is running and you cannot stop it, shut off your main first and call second. Most valley homes have the main shutoff in a box near the street or on the front wall by the hose bib, and knowing which before an emergency is the difference between a wet floor and a flooded one.

## What this covers

- **Burst and leaking pipe response**: Isolating the leak, stopping the water and repairing the line.
- **Sewer backup response**: Clearing a blocked main when waste is coming back into the house.
- **No hot water or no water**: Overnight diagnosis of a failed heater or a loss of supply, with same-visit repair where possible.

## Detail

### What counts as an emergency

Active uncontrolled water, sewage backing up, no water at all, or a gas smell. The rest can usually wait for a scheduled visit and cost less.

### Before we arrive

Shut the main, kill power to an electric water heater at the breaker, and clear a path to the affected area.

### Gas emergencies

If you smell gas, leave and call Southwest Gas first. That is an evacuation, not a plumbing call.

## Common questions

### What counts as a plumbing emergency?

Water running that you cannot stop, sewage coming back into the house, no water at all, or a smell of gas. Those four are worth an overnight call. A dripping tap, a slow drain or a single fixture that has stopped working will nearly always cost less as a scheduled visit the next day, and we will tell you which category you are in rather than dispatching a night van for something that can wait.

### Where is my main water shutoff in a Las Vegas home?

Usually in a box near the street or on the front wall by the hose bib. Valley homes are slab on grade with no basement, so there is rarely an indoor shutoff the way there is in other parts of the country. Finding yours before you need it is the single most useful thing you can do, because in a burst pipe the difference between a wet floor and a flooded one is the two minutes it takes to locate the valve.

### What should I do if I smell gas?

Leave the building and call Southwest Gas from outside. That is an evacuation, not a plumbing call, and it is the one emergency where you should not wait for us. Once the gas utility has made the property safe we can deal with whatever plumbing or appliance work follows.

### Can a burst pipe be repaired at night, or only patched?

Usually repaired properly. The overnight work is isolating the leak, stopping the water and repairing the line, and on a supply line that is generally a complete fix rather than a temporary one. Where the failure turns out to be a whole run of failing pipe, we stop the water, make the house usable, and quote the repipe in daylight rather than making that decision for you at three in the morning.

### What should I do while I wait for an emergency plumber?

Shut off your water main first, then call. If it is safe, kill power to an electric water heater at the breaker and move what you can lift out of the water. Knowing where your main shutoff is before this happens is the single most useful thing you can do, and it is usually in a box near the street or on the front wall by the hose bib.

### Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Monkey Wrench Contractors LLC holds Nevada State Contractors Board license 0092999 and trades as Monkey Wrench Plumbing. We are a BBB accredited business with an A plus rating, and every technician is background checked. About thirty minutes before your appointment you get a text with the assigned technician's photo, name, license number and live ETA.

### Do you charge for an estimate?

No. The inspection is free and you get a flat-rate price before any work begins, so the number you approve is the number you pay. If the scope changes once something is opened up, we stop and re-quote rather than adding to the invoice at the end.
