# Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Systems in Las Vegas > Reverse osmosis installation, filter changes and membrane replacement in Las Vegas. Under-sink drinking water systems built for high mineral supply. Source: https://monkeywrenchlv.com/services/reverse-osmosis-systems/ Reverse osmosis is the answer to how Las Vegas water tastes rather than to what it does to your pipes. Valley supply carries a high dissolved mineral load from the Colorado River, and an RO membrane removes it at the tap. It treats drinking and cooking water only, so it does not replace a softener. ## What this covers - **Reverse osmosis installation**: Under-sink system, dedicated faucet, drain saddle and, where wanted, a fridge and ice maker line. - **Filter and membrane replacement**: Pre-filter, post-filter and membrane changes on any existing system, not only ones we installed. - **RO troubleshooting**: Slow fill, no fill, air in the line and taste complaints traced to the stage that has actually failed. ## Detail ### Membrane life in high mineral water A membrane fed unsoftened valley water fouls faster. Pairing RO with a softener extends membrane life considerably. ### Fridge and ice maker lines Run from the RO tank so ice and cold water taste the same as the tap. ### Existing system service We service and re-cartridge systems installed by other companies rather than insisting on a replacement. ## Common questions ### Does a reverse osmosis system replace a water softener? No. RO treats drinking and cooking water at one tap; a softener treats the whole house. Reverse osmosis is the answer to how Las Vegas water tastes, not to what it does to your pipes and your water heater. The two are complementary, and a house with a scale problem is not fixed by an under-sink RO unit. ### How long does an RO membrane last on Las Vegas water? Less than the packaging suggests if it is fed unsoftened valley supply, because a high dissolved mineral load fouls a membrane faster. Pairing RO with a softener extends membrane life considerably, which is the main reason the two are often quoted together. Pre-filters and post-filters are on their own shorter schedule. ### Can the RO system feed my fridge and ice maker? Yes, run from the RO tank, and it is worth doing. Ice and chilled water made from untreated valley supply taste like untreated valley supply, which rather defeats the point of having treated the tap two feet away. It is a line run at installation rather than a separate system. ### My RO is slow to fill or tastes off. What has failed? It is one specific stage, and the symptom usually says which. Slow fill points at the membrane or a low tank pressure; taste returning points at exhausted carbon; air in the line points at the tank. We trace it to the stage that has actually failed and service systems other companies installed rather than insisting on a replacement. ### Are you licensed and insured? Yes. Monkey Wrench Contractors LLC holds Nevada State Contractors Board license 0092999 and trades as Monkey Wrench Plumbing. We are a BBB accredited business with an A plus rating, and every technician is background checked. About thirty minutes before your appointment you get a text with the assigned technician's photo, name, license number and live ETA. ### Do you charge for an estimate? No. The inspection is free and you get a flat-rate price before any work begins, so the number you approve is the number you pay. If the scope changes once something is opened up, we stop and re-quote rather than adding to the invoice at the end. ## Related services - [Whole Home Water Filtration](https://monkeywrenchlv.com/services/water-filtration/) - [Water Softener Installation](https://monkeywrenchlv.com/services/water-softener/) - [Plumbing Maintenance and Inspection](https://monkeywrenchlv.com/services/plumbing-maintenance/) --- **Monkey Wrench Plumbing** is a licensed Las Vegas plumber, open 24 hours.
