How do I know if my pool is losing water to a leak or to evaporation?
Some summer loss is evaporation and is normal in this climate. What points at plumbing is losing water fast, or losing it faster when the pump is running than when it is off, because that is the pressure side of the system pushing water out through a fault. Las Vegas has one of the highest backyard-pool densities in the country and a great many of those losses turn out to be lines rather than the shell.
Do you repair pool pumps and resurfacing too?
No, and we say so rather than guessing. We work on the pool's plumbing: the suction and return lines between the pool and the equipment pad, the valves and unions at the pad, and the auto-fill line. Pumps, resurfacing, tile and sweeps are pool-builder work, and sending a plumber to do them serves nobody.
Why do the pipes at my equipment pad keep cracking?
Sun. PVC at an equipment pad sits exposed to valley summers year after year, and it becomes brittle and weeps at joints and valves. The upside is that the pad is the most accessible part of the whole system, so it is also the cheapest place for a pool to develop a leak.
My pool auto-fill seems to run constantly. Is that a problem?
It usually means either the valve has failed open or the pool is genuinely losing water and the auto-fill is quietly covering for it. The second is the expensive one, because a metered supply topping up a leak can run for months without anybody noticing. Either way the auto-fill line and valve are worth checking before the pool itself is blamed.
