Why has my shower lost pressure?
It is usually scaled rather than broken. Hard water closes up the showerhead and then the cartridge over a few years, and both are the first things to check before anyone talks about opening a wall. Descaling or replacing the head and cartridge restores the flow in most cases, and that is a repair rather than a plumbing project.
Why does my shower go hot or cold when a toilet flushes?
That is a worn pressure-balance valve. The valve is meant to hold the mix steady when pressure changes elsewhere in the house, and once it wears it stops compensating. It is a cartridge job rather than a re-plumb, and it is a comfort issue that turns into a scalding risk in a house with children.
There is a stain on the ceiling below my shower. What is it?
A valve leak or a pan leak, and the difference matters because one is reached from the front and one is not. We locate the source before cutting anything, since a stain spreads along a joist and appears some distance from where the water is actually coming in. Cutting where the stain is, rather than where the leak is, is how a small repair becomes a large one.
Can a showerhead be cleaned, or does it need replacing?
