Weak shower flow is usually a scaled head or screen, and that is a ten-minute fix. A shower that drips after the valve is off, or stains the ceiling below, is a valve or a leak behind the wall, and that one does not wait.
Where it is in a valley home
The head and arm, the mixing valve behind the wall plate, the diverter if there is a tub spout, and the drain and its trap below the pan or tub.
What usually goes wrong
- Scale blocks the head and the valve's own screens, which is the usual cause of gradual pressure loss in a valley home.
- Mixing valve cartridges wear, so temperature swings when another fixture runs, or the valve drips when closed.
- A failed pan or drain connection shows as a stain on the ceiling below rather than water in the shower.
What to check first

Unscrew the head and soak it. Restore flow there and the valve is probably fine.

Note whether temperature swings only when a toilet flushes, which points at the valve rather than the heater.

Look at the ceiling directly below an upstairs shower after use, not during.
Call us when the valve drips when closed, temperature will not hold, or there is any staining below the shower.
