Hose Bib Repair in Las Vegas
A hose bib that drips from the spout usually needs a washer or seat; one that weeps from under the handle needs a packing nut or stem. Water running down the wall behind it is the one that matters, because that is inside the wall.
Where it is in a valley home
On the front wall near the main shut-off, and usually at the rear near the patio. Valley homes often have one on each elevation for irrigation.
What usually goes wrong
- Direct sun destroys hose washers and the bib's own rubber far faster here than in milder climates.
- Hard water scales the seat, so the valve no longer closes cleanly even with a new washer.
- A hose left attached puts constant strain on the bib and holds water against the fitting.
What to check first
- 1
Take the hose off and see whether it still drips. A hose left connected is a common cause on its own.
- 2
Tighten the packing nut a quarter turn if the weep is from under the handle rather than the spout.
- 3
Look at the wall below the bib for staining, which suggests the leak is behind it rather than at it.
Call us when water shows on the wall or inside, the bib turns without resisting, or the body itself has split.
