Laundry Valves and Washer Connections in Las Vegas

Turn the laundry valves off when you go away. A burst washer hose is one of the most common causes of serious water damage in a home, and it fails while the machine is idle just as easily as while it runs.

Where it is in a valley home

In a recessed box behind the washing machine, usually with hot and cold valves and a drain standpipe. Some valley homes use a single lever valve that closes both at once.

What usually goes wrong

  • Rubber supply hoses age, blister and split, often at the crimp where you cannot see them.
  • Valves seize because they are never turned, then weep once they finally are.
  • The drain standpipe backs up when the trap collects lint, which floods the floor rather than the box.

What to check first

  1. 1

Pull the washer forward and feel along the hoses for blistering or stiffness, especially at the fittings.

  2. 2

Swap rubber hoses for braided stainless ones, which is the single cheapest thing you can do here.

  3. 3

Close and reopen the valves once a year so they do not seize.
