Everything above the counter: the faucet body and handle, the pull-out spray and its hose, the aerator at the tip of the spout, and any air gap or soap dispenser alongside.

What usually goes wrong

• At roughly 17 grains per gallon, scale builds in the aerator and inside the cartridge, which is why valley faucets stiffen years earlier than the same tap elsewhere.
• Pull-out spray hoses wear where they rub the cabinet cut-out, and the diverter clogs so the spray never runs full.
• The faucet base weeps around the deck plate, which pools on the counter rather than under it.

What to check first

   Unscrew the aerator and soak it in vinegar. Reduced flow at one tap only is almost always this.

   Note whether the drip is constant or only after use, which separates a cartridge from a supply issue.

   Feel under the deck plate for water, so a counter leak is not mistaken for a cabinet leak.
